Chief Eyewear is an Australian owned company made up of three creative, and innovative, entrepreneurs who believe in thinking differently. We believe that you can be fashionable and stylish, whilst also reducing our ecological footprint. Australia has one of the world's largest ecological footprints per capita.
Bamboo and wooden eyewear is a concept that is relatively new, especially in Australia. It was very important to us to have a product that is made from sustainable, eco-friendly materials.
Globally, 86% of ocean debris is plastic and over 1,000,000 seabirds and marine mammals die each year from plastic ingestion or entanglement. These are only some of the reasons why all of our sunglasses are non-plastic and either made from one of the fasting growing plants in the world in bamboo, or from other types of wood.
Chief Eyewear are beautifully designed; our lenses are polarised and have maximum UV 400 protection, they float on water and most importantly are eco-friendly and sustainable. We use the highest quality materials and have vigorously tested our sunglasses to ensure their durability.
Apart from the fact that we are eco-friendly and focus on making our products from sustainable materials, we are looking to create a range that is unique.
Every pair in itself is actually unique due to the wooden grain and some of the different types of wood that we have already used, and will be bringing out in the future, are like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
Most of our sunglasses float on the water, so no more losing pairs whilst on the boat or jet skiing or whatever water activities you like!
We now have frames made out of the following range of materials: bamboo, recycled skateboards, bubinga wood, ebony wood and African black wood. All our lenses are also polarised and with maximum UV400 protection.
We donate $5 from every pair of sunglasses sold online to the 'Seabird Rescue' foundation. You can read more about this charity below.

Their admirable work involves rescuing and protecting shorebirds, marine turtles and raising awareness about the human impact on the environment. One of their primary goals is also reducing the impacts of marine plastic debris. They are known for their work rescuing the Australian pelican, but over the years their expertise has expanded to all manner of seabirds, sea turtles and marine mammals.
